Japan's military held a field manoeuvres for surface-to-ship missiles on Monday (November 11) in Okinawa, the southernmost prefecture and near a group of islands disputed between Japan and China.

Inside the military base near the Okinawan capital Naha, the Japan Self-Defence Force's (JSDF) 4th Surface-to-Ship Missiles Regiment rolled out two of their cruise missile launchers for the drills which happens once every two years.
Another missile unit from Hokkaido has been dispatched to Miyakojima, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) southeast of the disputed islands called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.
The Type 88 Surface-to-Ship Missile, or SSM-1, is known to reach 150 to 200 kilometers, putting the disputed islands almost in range from Miyakojima.
