Two New Defense Contracts for Saab

Saab of Sweden has announced new contracts for components for the Carl-Gustaf man-portable weapon system and for combat management and radar systems. The contract for components for the Carl-Gustaf system, worth about $67.5 million, came from an unidentified military customer and includes an option for additional orders worth about $17.7 million.

 Saab said its combat management and radar system was ordered by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Korea and will be used on a frigate the Korean company is building for Thailand. The contract carries a value of about $132 million.
The Carl-Gustaf is an 84mm recoilless rifle. Saab described the components ordered as ammunition for the multirole weapon. "Carl-Gustaf is a world leading system and a key component of armed forces throughout the world," said Gorgen Johansson, head of Saab's Dynamics business area. "With each new model, the demand for the system increases in many strategic markets."

 Deliveries under the order will take place this year and next, the company said. For Daewoo, Saab will develop and integrate the combat management and radar systems on the new frigate and will also be responsible for procurement and integration of third-party systems.

 Deliveries of equipment will begin in 2016.
