The days of Porsches being solely for single, wealthy dudes with needs for speed are done. Key word: solely. Yes, the 911 is still there, but with the huge success of the Cayenne SUV, Porsche is doing even more to home in on a different demographic: families. Based on the Audi Q5, the 2015 Porsche Macan is being billed as a luxury compact crossover that’s affordable.

The Macan S (starting at $50,895) features a 3.0-liter V-6 twin-turbo engine that turns out 340 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque. The Macan Turbo ($73,295) generates 400 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. We’re looking at 0 to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds for the S and a brisk 4.6 seconds for the Turbo. 19-inch wheels and paddle shifters are standard. Porsche says the name Macan (pronounced ma-CAN) comes from the Indonesian word for “tiger.” And just in case you forgot, that’s pronounced TY-gur.
