Raytheon has announced its joint venture company with Diehl of Germany has been contracted to supply Sidewinder missiles to an unidentified company.

The deal for AIM-9L/I-1 tactical Sidewinder missiles from Diehl-Raytheon Missile Systeme GmbH is worth more than $30 million and includes provisions for training missiles and ground support equipment.

The AIM-9 Sidewinder, carried by fighter aircraft, is a heat-seeking, short-range, air-to-air missile that has evolved throughout five decades of combat-proven performance. The AIM-9L/I-1 provides upgraded infrared counter-countermeasures.

"Sidewinder missiles provide the warfighter a critical contribution to the counter-air mission," said Stefan Eckert, president of Diehl-Raytheon Missile Systeme. "DRM is proud to contribute to Sidewinder missile capability and to provide follow-on support."
For the direct commercial sale, DRM will refurbish German AIM-9L missiles for the customer.

DRM GmbH was established in 2004 to modernize and market the AIM-9L/M Sidewinder and to provide worldwide logistics and life-cycle support for the missile.

Information on the number of missiles to be refurbished and supplied was not disclosed. [via]
