STS Defence has been awarded a contract from the UK MoD to provide Integrated Logistic Support for multimedia systems on Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels.

Partnered with Airbus Defence and Space, STS Defence’s prime contractor role will secure and improve crew facilities aboard Royal Navy vessels such as the Type 23, Type 45 (above), Landing Platform Dock (LPD), Landing Platform Helicopter (LPH), Mine Counter Measure (MCM), P2000 and RFA ships, plus Vanguard and Trafalgar submarines.

The five year contract will involve STS Defence and Airbus Defence and Space supporting the equipment to receive, distribute and display the multimedia content that is increasingly important to the welfare of a ship’s company, particularly those on long deployments away from home.

As well as supporting legacy equipment, STS Defence will work with Airbus Defence and Space and SSVC to improve the on-board multimedia experience by updating equipment to contemporary standards and exploring options to incrementally introduce on-demand content and personal internet access.
Commenting on the contract award, Richard Papanicolaou, Managing Director of STS Defence said: “This award is another significant milestone for the Company and reflects on our success in supporting the Royal Navy’s UHF satellite communications systems and our capabilities in through-life engineering.”

Paul Millington, Head of UK Government Communications, Airbus Defence and Space added: “Our role will be to lead the technical refresh of the legacy equipment, supporting STS Defence to deliver a secure and reliable multimedia service for Royal Navy crews. Going forward, we will develop a number of refresh options to support a full welfare service that operates over an IP network and integrates with existing external programmes for the provision of bunk space connectivity.”
